MedStart Achieves 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Status
MedStart has officially received its 501(c)(3) non-profit designation from the IRS as of January 2025. This status allows us to operate as a tax-exempt organization focused on fostering healthcare innovation, supporting startups, and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Sacramento region.
Organizational Structure and Leadership
With the new designation in place, MedStart’s leadership has been formalized through the appointment of its initial Board of Directors:
Rich Foreman – President: Overseeing organizational leadership and strategic direction.
Susan Williams – Chief Financial Officer (CFO): Responsible for financial oversight and management.
Robert Groth – Secretary: Leading governance efforts, including the development of MedStart’s bylaws.
Cameron Law – Board Member: Providing strategic input on innovation and community outreach.
The board has also approved a policy granting financial signatory authority to Rich Foreman and Susan Williams. This ensures responsible oversight of all organizational finances.
Obtaining 501(c)(3) non-profit status establishes MedStart as a formally recognized organization dedicated to supporting healthcare innovation. This designation enables us to pursue grant funding, accept tax-deductible donations, and collaborate more effectively with other institutions and organizations. It also provides a framework for greater accountability and transparency in our operations. Moving forward, this status will help MedStart expand its programs, support healthcare startups, and contribute to building a stronger ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
